Greg T. Parente, Artistic Director of the Strain Theatre Company started teaching at the Professional Performing Arts School in the fall of 2002. During this time, Greg worked to help the students cultivate their specific talents and interests, encouraging them to collaborate with one another. These projects, overseen and fostered by Greg, began to grow and develop, and eventually there emerged a core group of students whose work together reached a professional level. These became the current Strain members, all present and former PPAS students.
The Strain Theatre Company is committed to the development and cultivation of New York's young talent. It is designed to be a stomping ground for young emerging artists who have a strong passion and desire to collaborate in the theatre process. The company seeks to foster New York's next generation of actors by providing them with a platform to craft and hone their skills in all areas of production: acting, directing, writing, and designing. Whether it is an existing play or one that has yet to be produced, the Strain strives to tell each of these unique stories in an original and engaging manner, hoping to inspire both artist and audience.
